TDV6 Timing Belt Replacement
Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport (L320) and early Discovery 4 models were fitted with the 2.7 TDV6 engine which required scheduled timing belt replacement every 10 years or 105,000 miles.
The TDV6 Engine uses a timing belt to synchronise the crankshaft, camshaft and a rear belt to drive the high-pressure fuel pump. Like all rubber components, timing belts deteriorate over time due to age, heat, and load, which causes cracking, stretching or it to snap. When the belt is to fail, the pistons and valves collide, causing severe internal engine damage, which is expensive and often labour-intensive to repair.

Why Replace the Fuel Pump Timing Belt?
While the rear fuel pump belt isn’t timed on the TDV6, failure still damages, casing, wiring and other components, causing high repair costs. Replacing it at the same time as the front timing belt is the most practical and cost-effective approach.
