  • Typical Costs and Pricing Structure

It’s difficult to provide a precise figure for a Discovery 2 chassis swap, as the final price depends on the vehicle’s condition and the level of finish you want. Some customers opt for a comprehensive restoration with all the bells and whistles, while others prefer a basic, functional swap.

    • Average Cost: Most chassis swaps fall in the range of £5,500–£6,500, though some may be lower or higher depending on circumstances.
    • Starting Prices:
    • Using Maer chassis with a car on coil springs (with brake pipes): £5795
    • Using Richards Chassis on coils or air (with brake pipes) : £5,995

You can also purchase a chassis kit from us, which includes the chassis and any additional parts you need, bundled at a discounted rate and delivered to your door

  • What’s Included in a Standard Chassis Swap?

A typical chassis swap involves the following:

    • Removing the vehicle body (assuming it is in good condition)
    • Removing axles as complete units with control arms
    • Replacing brake pipes

Please note, this does not include extra restoration work or the refitting of ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement). If your vehicle is equipped with ACE, discuss this beforehand, as it affects the price and process.

  • The Chassis Swap Process

    1. Consultation: The best way to determine your needs and preferences is a face-to-face meeting with the vehicle on the lift. If this is not possible, providing a comprehensive set of images can help establish requirements.
    2. Ordering the Chassis: Once your booking is confirmed, your chassis is ordered and payment is made for the chassis. The price depends on your vehicle model and how quickly you want the job completed. Most Land Rover chassis components can be sourced within 48 hours, though a rush order may incur a premium.
    3. Vehicle Drop-Off: You drop off your vehicle on the agreed date.
    4. Body Removal: The body is typically removed within 48 hours. At this stage, any additional parts needed are identified, and you are informed of any extra costs or recommendations.
    5. Axles, Transmission, and Engine: The axles, transmission, and engine are removed as complete assemblies. Any extra labor required for installing new parts is discussed and costed at this point.
    6. Collection: Most standard chassis swaps are completed within 7–10 days, though allowing up to two weeks is recommended to accommodate unforeseen issues.
    7. Payment: Payment for all parts and labour is made upon collection of your completed vehicle. Depending on any additional parts requested will depend if we need further payment up front to order more parts
  • Additional Considerations

    • ACE-Equipped Vehicles: If your Discovery 2 has ACE, discuss your requirements in advance. Reinstallation is not included in the standard price.
    • Additional Repairs: We offer parts from a wide range of suppliers and can add everything from a clutch to a full expedition set up. So if you’re looking to do additional repairs, do ask as we can usually save you on a lot of labour costs
    • Unexpected Repairs: Once the body is off, additional issues may become apparent. You will be notified of any extra required or recommended work along with the associated parts and labour costs.
    • Chassis Kit Option: For those who prefer to do the work themselves or use their own mechanic, a chassis kit with all necessary parts can be arranged and delivered.

Welding and Paintwork: We offer both fabrication/ welding and paintwork on site for those who would like a full restoration, please contact us to discuss prices

    Conclusion

A Discovery 2 chassis swap is an investment in the longevity and safety of your vehicle. While costs can vary, being prepared and having an open conversation about your expectations and the vehicle’s condition will ensure the process runs smoothly. Always seek a detailed consultation and clarify all potential needs before proceeding.
